Coach Benji

Benji

Hi, I’m Benji, I am an apprentice coach at Phoenix Training Centre.

My martial arts journey began when I was younger, beginning with karate and then later Muay Thai.

In January of 2018 I began my journey into my true martial art passion Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. In my time training, I have had the privilege to attend seminars run by some of the best coaches in the world and learn invaluable skills for both on and off the mats.

In 2019, I had the privilege of meeting and learning from Moshe Katz, who presented his Krav Maga seminar at our gym. Since then, I have continued to train Krav Maga and assist with coaching the kids Krav classes.

My life goal is to grow my knowledge and skill of both BJJ and Krav Maga and to be able to pass that knowledge on to others to help them become both mentally and physically fit as well as confident in life.

I started my martial arts journey at Phoenix training Centre after watching my son training.

A non negotiable for me had always been that my kids learn a realistic martial art for self defence, self discipline and confidence.

Seeing the effectiveness of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu I knew that this was the martial art for my children.

After sitting on the sidelines and watching my son on the mat, I knew I couldn’t just live through him and decided to start my own journey. It took me 30 years to build up the confidence to give it a go myself.

I started training myself and haven’t looked back. Better late than never!

I then volunteered to help out with the kids class as a training dummy, slowly taking on more responsibility, moving into helping coach the kids.

BJJ has become a major part of our family, with our youngest eager to start as well

I hold a working with children check, certificate in first aid and cpr.
